This is a nice memory to share. Occured at Carlsberg Sverige - Falkenberg. Participated in filling of 175th Anniversary Carnegie Porter into Bourbon Barrels (from Heaven Hill Distilleries, USA). Barrels were brought over by Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn Brewery and crew.
- This beer was created as a collaboration between Carlsberg Sweden Brewmaster Daniel Eriksson and Brooklyn Brewery's Garrett Oliver.
- Filling was one challenge. The next was emptying the barrels back into a blending tank and transporting to Copenhagen for filling. My task was to help make this technically possible. There were only three of us to figure out how to make this happen! I would like to point out that filling a barrel:
is easier than emptying one, especially when emptying 140 barrels (51 gallons each) back into one holding tank! Barrels are not designed for excessive overpressure, so the usual transfer methods were not possible. To make a long story short, we solved the problem and the end result is:
